Singapore’s Mr. Midnight adaptation coming to Netflix next week

The one-week countdown begins till a classic Singapore children’s horror book series sees its stories hit the world’s most popular streaming service.

Netflix’s Mr. Midnight: Beware the Monsters television series, adapted from James Lee’s Mr. Midnight fictional spooky tales first published in 1998, will premiere on Oct. 24.

The 13-episode series centers around a group of teenagers fighting to solve a series of strange supernatural occurrences in Tanah Merah town. It stars Malaysian actor Idan Aedan, local actors Lim Yu-Beng and Chen Yixin, Indonesian actress-model Adinia Wirasti, French actor Maxime Bouttier and many more.

The book series, which has over 100 books and is still being published, is written by Australian writer Jim Aitchison, who goes by the pseudonym James Lee. The books have been translated into several languages such as Chinese, Malay, Indonesian and Burmese.

The series has been in talks to be adapted into a television series for over seven years.

Russell Lee, another iconic local author who created True Singapore Ghost Stories, also gave a shoutout to the series and congratulated the author. 

Singaporean bodybuilder and professional wrestler Danie Dharma also teased a photo of himself in heavy prosthetics playing a “mystical character” in the show.
