We’ve got no lack of festivals in Singapore, that’s for sure, but we always welcome any excuse to get out of the house and mingle with crowds in appreciation of art. The newest event on the calendar takes place in the Civic District — at places like the National Gallery, Asian Civilisations Museum, Victoria Theatre, and The Arts House — and it’s named (rather unoriginally) the Civic District Outdoor Festival.
Debuting with six zones across the four institutions, the fest will be spread over the first two weekends of August, with more than 40 indoor and outdoor activities. But not to worry, it won’t clash with everyone’s favorite Singapore Night Festival, which celebrates its 10th edition over the last two weekends of the month.
If you’re wondering about those giant bunnies pictured above, head over to The Padang to picnic with the sculptures — but do so after you’ve made the rounds at the food street along St. Andrew’s Road. There’ll be bites by eateries like Kerbside Gourmet, Ninja Cut, Coco Loco and &Sons.
Also look out for ‘Hemera’s Dream’, a multimedia installation that will be projected onto the front facade of the National Gallery and the Arts House, the facade and interior of the Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall, as well as the annexe wing facade of the Asian Civilisations Museum.
Since you’re already in the area, might as well check out exhibitions at the various museums — especially Yayoi Kusama’s, if you haven’t yet — or sign up for guided tours and workshops. There’ll also be music performances by the likes of Joie Tan and Inch Chua, alongside roving acts and family-friendly productions.
The Civic District Outdoor Festival is on from Aug 4-5 & 11-12, 5pm-11pm at the Civic District.
