From the Singaporean who brought you iconic landmarks in Singapore reimagined as Pantone colors comes another photo series, this time focusing on the humble, “hole in the wall” architectural wall features common to the void decks of older housing estates across the country.
Titled Your House Downstairs, the familiar sight — documented by Jonathan Tan in a charmingly unique way with his iPhone 6 — transforms these ordinary spaces into intriguing windows that offer a peek into life in HDB flats.
His pet project was started in early 2015 when Tan stumbled upon a wall feature in his vicinity and snapped a shot of it. After that, he began to take notice of the different designs at void decks and spent weekends traveling from HDB estate to HDB estate in search for more.
The result? A colorful collection of images easily recognizable to any Singaporean as part of the country’s landscape and heritage.
