Injecting a little hype and energy into the Jalan Besar neighborhood, this year’s Singapore Urban Design Festival returns over the weekend as part of Singapore Design Week. Back for its second edition, the event combines innovation talks, music performances, parties, workshops, and more.
First, fuel up on sandwiches by Maille’s, cocktails and meats by W Hotel, or botanical concoctions by Hendrick’s Gin. On the healthier side, you’ve got cold pressed juices by local vertical farm Sustenir Agriculture and Ugly Food, which encourages the reduction of food wastage.
When those hunger pangs have been zapped, head to the workshop corner to learn from Correnti Studios about urban farming in underutilized spaces (so you can grow fruits and veggies in unconventional places). Or imagine the future of living spaces in Singapore with Agency. Alternatively, bring your workout gear and sweat it out with Under Armour’s HIIT, Yoga, Jam, Bootcamp, and Crossfit classes.
To keep you entertained, the Roller Disco takes you back to the ’80s with upbeat tunes and quad skates that you can rent (for free). DJs Stephen Day, Muto Masashi, and Orio Leshem will provide the beats, while local acts like Masia One, Forests, Mediocre Haircut Crew, Yao, Joie Tan, Lew, and Retrofocus head to the stage with their music. Plus, look out for performances by drag queens Yeast Monster, Arya Dunn, Dahlia Rose, and Tiara Sorrel.
If you’re keen on the innovation talks, the three-day summit features 40 speakers and panelists discussing sustainable development through the lens of technology. Topics on the line-up include the future of renewable energy, urban mobility in transition, balancing scales for human-centered mobility, and more.
