Singapore Art Museum’s main building closed for major revamp until 2021

The Singapore Art Museum (SAM), which has been around since 1996, has closed its main building for a major facelift that will take four years to complete. Scheduled for completion in 2021, the project will cost about $90 million and will result in upgraded facilities, expanded learning spaces and massive spaces for large-scale installations.

But not to worry, SAM fans. Museum programming will continue on as usual at SAM at 8Q on Queen Street for the rest of this year, as well as in other museums, institutions and community areas from 2018 onwards. The main SAM building on Bras Basah Road is the one that will remain closed to the public for the next few years.

Before the second quarter of 2017, an open tender for architects and consultants to manage the project will be called. In the meantime, head over to the 8Q space to check out the Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth exhibition opening on May 6, as well as activities for the upcoming Singapore Night Festival.
