Shoegaze icons Swervedriver to drop by for intimate, fuzz-fueled show next month

Fresh from bringing Spanish all-girl garage quartet Hinds here for a rousing gig at Kult Kafe, concert promoters Songs For Children upped the ante with their upcoming show — legendary ’90s alternative rock outfit Swervedriver live at Hood Cafe and Bar.

As one of the key members of the shoegazing era, the English band have been widely regarded to be as iconic as their contemporaries My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Offering a crunchier and heavier sound than the standard shoegaze aesthetic, their progress through the ’90s went through a period of ups and downs, but their full-length releases were warmly received by critics.

After undergoing a hiatus, Swervedriver finally reunited in 2008, going on tours before releasing I Wasn’t Born to Lose You last year, their first since 1998. Now firmly back in the groove as shoegazing legends, they’re heading to Australia and New Zealand for a tour — but not before an intimate show in Singapore.

With fellow fuzz pedal stompers Cosmic Child as opening act, take a trip down the hazy slacker fog  of the ’90s with Swervedriver come June 15. Tickets are on sale online at $35 for students and NSFs, while it’s $50 for other folks — more details available on the Facebook event page.
