The latest cineplex to open in Singapore is the new Shaw Theatres Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ), the ninth one by Shaw Organisation. With a total of 12 screens — making it the highest number of screens in the east — the cinema comprises of an IMAX theater, two Lumiere ones, and nine with laser projectors. It’s also the fifth IMAX theater in Singapore, and comes with “next-generation IMAX” laser projection system, offering sharper and brighter visuals and greater dynamic range.
As for Lumiere, the theaters also come with state-of-the-art sound tech that you can enjoy from your luxe Figueras seats. Each reclinable seat features an ergonomically shaped backrest cushion, a turntable, and a USB charging port.
To entice film lovers, starting in October, the PLQ cineplex will showcase one classic film by Malaysian film actor P Ramlee every last Saturday of the month for its nostalgic program. The series of old school Malay titles, which have been digitized and subtitled in English, will kick off with the award-winning Ibu Mertua-ku (My Mother-in-Law) from 1962.
Oh, and if you happen to be around the vicinity today, the theater is giving out 500 free movie tickets this morning, limited to two per person.
In the years to come, Shaw Theatres is also redeveloping its Lot One and Balestier cineplexes, both of which will reopen with shiny new looks in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
