Update: Run as One Singapore has been postponed until further notice.
Many of us miss public running events, where we used to compete alongside and against our friends, take in gorgeous views of the city centre, and get to know other fitness enthusiasts. The good news is, large-scale public runs are coming back, starting with a truly unique one happening this May. This upcoming run’s guidelines incorporate safe distancing precautions, and invite runners of all fitness levels to take part together.
Happening across 10 days, from 21 to 30 May, Run As One Singapore welcomes one and all to choose from different distances, and connects runners via a dedicated app. Charlotte Henry, Marketing Manager at MetaSport, which is the organiser of Run As One Singapore, explains how this off-kilter event will take place both physically and virtually. During this race, you will enjoy the thrill of lining up at the start line, and seeing other runners out on the course, while listening to a virtual coach and an audio emcee who will guide you and cheer you on. Adding to the feel good factor of Run As One Singapore, proceeds from this event will go to a good cause.
Coconuts: Hi Charlotte! Please tell us more about Run As One Singapore.
Charlotte Henry: Run As One Singapore is a running race, which will take place over 10 days from 21 to 30 May. This is the second edition of Run As One Singapore. Participants can choose their distance: the 12.8km full loop around Marina Reservoir, or the shorter 6km course. If you are up for a bigger challenge, you can run the “Double” and experience both routes. The Double allows runners to run these two routes at any time during the event period. All races start and finish at the Singapore Sports Hub, where you can enjoy picturesque views of Marina Bay.
Coconuts: What is most distinct about Run As One Singapore, as compared to other public running events?
Charlotte Henry: Runners taking part in Run As One Singapore can race at their preferred time, through a time slot booking process. For the most competitive athletes, this year’s Run As One Singapore will have a physical finale on 6 June for athletes competing in the individual 12.8km event. In this finale, qualifiers will be given the opportunity to race head-to-head to see who are the overall male and female champions.
Coconuts: Who can sign up for Run As One Singapore?
Charlotte Henry: Anyone above 10 years old can register.
Coconuts: Who do you think Run As One Singapore will appeal to most?
Charlotte Henry: Run As One will appeal to experienced runners, and people who have started exercising during circuit breaker and want to put their training to the test and experience the thrill of a real race. Run As One will also appeal to younger runners, with an innovative race format powered by the newly developed MyRaceGate app.
Coconuts: Can you tell us about the charity and eco-friendly aspects of Run As One Singapore?
Charlotte Henry: Last year, we raised $160,000 for our charity partner, New Life Community Services, and our goal is to increase the amount raised this year, so we encourage everyone to join this effort. Also happening this year, Run As One Singapore is going green — participants earn MetaMiles with their race entry, which they can exchange for the Run As One Singapore goodies that they want. No more wasted event items.
