All six floors at Robinsons Orchard, which now occupies the old The Heeren Building, are now open.
Not only is the structure swanky with its floor-to-ceiling window displays and even a fog system built into its outdoor fountain, Robinsons Orchard also offers a shopping experience unlike anything we’ve seen from the departmental store.
We’ll have to come back again to confirm this, but at the moment, service is impeccable, with staff practically jumping out at you to inundate you with greetings and samples. Gone are the metal gondolas filled with mass-produced miniature shampoos and plain vanilla clutchbags — everything here is a conversation starter.
The ground floor boasts the Hair Lab, a corridor-like space complete with its own mirrored wall stocking products by Denman, Kent and Philip Kingsley, as well as a perfume bar that reminds us of a scene off Sex and the City. Cult brands MAC, Nars and SKII, as well as homegrown skincare label DrGL, have also set up shop in the beauty hall.
The upper levels are filled with men and womenswear from the likes of Melissa, Sperry, Superga, Ted Baker and Zadig & Voltaire, and there’s even a space called The Bubble Room built special for cult label (Carrie K., for example) baubles. And what better way to shop for jewellery than with a glass of bubbly in hand? The Moet bar within The Bubble Room takes care of that.

The real draw for us though was B1, a glorious farmer’s market-style emporium for the kitchen and home. Here you’ll find anything from Pantone Universe cups and adorable Katie Alice cake tins to Hediard jams, chocolates and tea infusions. Little Provence has a little section here too, and Le Chocolatier’s counter flaunts gelato and macaroon displays in case you get peckish while shopping.
We can’t believe we’re saying this, but we’re glad we braved all the obstruction from the construction that was going on for this place.
Robinsons Orchard is at the old The Heeren building, 260 Orchard Rd.
