Can’t get enough of Mala Tang? Fans of the lip-numbing, spicy Szechuan dish will have one new restaurant to check out in Singapore next week when Shanghai’s Red Lips opens its first outlet outside China at Jewel Changi Airport.

The five-year-old Mala Tang chain, known for its hotpot-in-a-bowl concept, offers customers a choice of 45 food items ranging from seafood and meat to vegetables and noodles to add to their bowls of piping-hot soup. Protein options include seabass, prawns, clams and pork collar.

The peppercorns used in the soups are handpicked from selected farming regions before they are boiled and combined with over 20 other ingredients and spices. There’s also two different sauces to choose from to take the flavor up a notch: a secret spicy sauce and a creamy sesame sauce.

Originally from Szechuan, Mala Tang, a Szechuan hotpot dish known for its peppercorn soup base, is having something of a moment in Singapore.

Red Lips has 40 stores in China. Other than serving Mala Tang hotpot, the casual-dining chain is known for its fresh and healthy ingredients. The new branch opens Oct 12 at Jewel Changi Airport.
