The hilarious duo behind popular local YouTube channel MunahHirziOfficial are taking their final bow this month, after a decade in the scene. But before Munah Bagharib and Hirzi Zulkiflie go their separate ways, the comedic brains behind the videos are putting on a one-night-only stage show to celebrate the end of their online reign and bid a proper farewell to their fans.
Expect to see your favorite characters, including the Makciks, the Minahs, and the Aunties, to make an appearance, alongside dance group The Limited Edition Crew and funny people Fukkah Fuzz, Dee Kosh, Preetipls, and Wayne Cheong in a no-holds-barred comedy roast of the duo.
“We’ve had a really good run on YouTube together, but we’ve also wanted for awhile to try doing our own things. I’m just thankful for all the opportunities that we’ve been given all these years,” 28-year-old Hirzi told The Straits Times.
From humble beginnings with guerilla-style dare videos to their now-famous music parodies, the best friends have come a long way since they were students studying for media management diplomas at Temasek Polytechnic.
Even though they’re parting ways, with Munah going into theatre and Hirzi doing more writing, the two insist their friendship will remain.
“We’ll be doing different things, but we’ll still be the best of friends. I’ve never met anyone with whom I’ve shared such good chemistry,” 29-year-old Munah said to ST.
And with tickets almost all sold out, it seems like many of the pair’s loyal followers – more than 145,000 of them on YouTube – will be there to see them take their bittersweet curtain call.
Take a walk down some highlights of Munah and Hirzi’s Youtube journey below.
Munah & Hirzi Live: Curtain Call is on Jan 24, 8pm-10:30pm at Capitol Theatre. $65.
