Local director Eric Khoo has made countless films and won numerous awards in his career, but his debut feature, Mee Pok Man, will always remain one of Singapore’s most acclaimed titles.
The black comedy, which revolves around a chance encounter between a mee pok seller and a prostitute, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, with a showcase at the 26th Singapore International Film Festival.
If you haven’t seen the iconic Singaporean movie, now’s your chance. Presented by The Projector and Asian Film Archive, Mee Pok Man: 20 Years celebrates the work with a display of rarely-seen material and in-depth dialogues.
Check out the double bill of Pain and Mee Pok Man on Apr 8 at 8pm, and stay on for a post-screening Q&A session with Eric Khoo. On Apr 17, there’ll be a talk on the restoration process of Mee Pok Man at 4.30pm, followed by another screening of the movie at 6pm. The last sceening will be on Apr 23 at 2pm, with a panel discussion about the legacy and impact of the film at 4.30pm.
