The waterfalls, spiral walkways, and glass greenhouse of Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay will be transformed into an alien world to promote the long-awaited sequel to 2009’s Avatar.
The highest-grossing film of all time will be adapted into an exhibition for visitors to tour Pandora, home of the film’s blue humanoid Navi and bioluminescent environments set in the 22nd century.
Themes from Avatar, the 2009 sci-fi film that has made nearly 3 billion worldwide, will be used in an immersive walk-through event at the futuristic Gardens by the Bay to promote its sequel later this year.
“As the first of our four AVATAR sequels comes to theaters this December, this is the perfect time – and the perfect place – to explore and celebrate the wonders of Pandora in an all-new way,” Kathy Franklin of Lightstorm Entertainment, film’s production company, said in a news release.
No specific launch date for Avatar: The Experience has been revealed.
The sequel – then sequels – have been in long development under original director James Cameron, now 67.
The first has a Dec. 16 release date, with the other three films to come out in the next six years.
The exhibit will involve designers from big names such as Cityneon Holdings, Disney Location-Based Experiences, and Lightstorm Entertainment.
The film, made in 3D, was one of the most expensive films to be made at the time (US$237 million, estimated), and set off a short-lived wave of enthusiasm for the technology.
