No Smiths reunion, but Johnny Marr will make Singapore debut in July

Still no news about the mythical reunion of The Smiths but at least legendary Brit-rock icon Johnny Marr will still be coming to Singapore in Feb. 9 sometime in July this year for his first ever concert here.

The former Smiths guitarist is set to perform at the University Cultural Centre Hall at the National University of Singapore, thanks to LAMC Productions (who also brought in Marr’s archenemy and former bandmate Morissey two years ago).

A very accomplished singer/songwriter in his own right, Marr has not only be considered one of the most influential figures coming out from 80’s, but continued to evolve as a musician throughout the years. His departure from The Smiths allowed him to explore numerous avenues of music, playing alongside the likes of Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, Pet Shop Boys, Oasis, Modest Mouse, The Cribs — but never staying as a permanent member anywhere.

As of recent years, Marr has focused on his solo career, releasing his debut album The Messenger last year and his sophomore effort Playland earlier in October — both of which appeared to strongly positive reviews.

Fans are in for a treat when the guitar great drops by and finally holds a show here. Though his initial February date has been cancelled due to a close family illness, the concert is still fixed to carry on, scheduled for the end of July 2015. All tickets purchased for the Feb 9 concert will be honoured at the new date while those who aren’t able to make it on the rescheduled day, a full refund will be made through Sistic.

Tickets are on sale at Sistic at $88, $108, $128, $148; stay updated on the Facebook event page.
