New Year’s Eve 2018: Count down at rooftop bars, fancy parties, and beach raves in Singapore

Now that we’re at the end of 2018, it’s time to look forward to 2019. But before you do that, toss aside all the terrible times of the past 12 months and party it up to ring in the new year with a bang. From family-friendly shindigs and waterfront fireworks shows to cool club soirees and rooftop bar raves, here’s a list of the best spots in Singapore that are hosting Dec 31 countdown festivities with beats, booze, and bites.


 

2019 Lai Liao

If you’re not in the mood for EDM bangers and sweaty dance floors, head on up to Loof and feast on chilli crab waffle fries or bak chor mee grilled cheese for a ballin’ time (complete with Bestman Balloons).

Beach BBQ Countdown Party

For a casual beach shindig, hit up Coastes and munch your way through an unlimited spread of grilled seafood, hearty meats, and sweet treats before grooving your way to the sandy dance floor propelled by pop, rock, funk, and soul tunes.

6pm-late at Coastes, #01-06, 50 Siloso Beach Walk. Adults $75, children $35. 

 

Block Party Countdown

The nightlife hub takes on a (sort of) family-friendly twist for its countdown party, with a “unicorn parade”, roaming green “toy soldiers”, a pedal-powered LED wall, plus plenty of stage games and music performances by the main stage.

9pm-12:30am at Clarke Quay Fountain Square. 

 

Brand New Day

Can’t stop, won’t stop partying? Go full on into revelry mode with Tanjong Beach Club’s two-day beach rave, where there’ll be cocktails, brunch bites, tropical beats, sea breezes and, oh yeah, no entry fee.

Dec 31: 9pm-late, Jan 1: 10am-late at Tanjong Beach Club, 120 Tanjong Beach Walk, Sentosa.

 

Burluxe

Burlesque meets luxe for one night only, with an evening that goes from chill sundown tunes at 1-Altitude rooftop bar to cabaret performances to the year’s catchiest smash hits by party band One Avenue.

Disco Dazzle

Celebrate the end of 2018 with a wave of nostalgia, courtesy of acoustic renditions of classic chart-toppers by bands like Jack & Rai and Tyen x Vishaal, as well as a couple rounds of stage game “Don’t Forget The Lyrics”.

Electric Sky

Shimmy into “silver glam” party attire for a countdown night at Bar Rouge, where the pounding beats and prime views of the NYE fireworks show will get you all psyched up for 2019.

Fly Me to the Moon

Feeling generous? Splash out on a night at urban microbrewery Level33 to ring in 2019 on a high. For $398, you’ll get access to a smorgasbord of food, from foie gras parfait and charcuterie boards to slow roasted wagyu and a buffet of desserts and cheeses. Plus, the craft beers (and some wines) are on free flow, and when the clock strikes midnight, you can make a toast to the new year with a complimentary glass of champagne and a backdrop of fireworks.

Glitter Ball NYE

Get glammed up in glitter and sequins for a sparkling evening way up high on a rooftop bar that’s decked out in disco balls and crystal-studded photo booths. Plus, let’s not forget those bird’s eye views of the musical fireworks showcase.

Kampong Boogie

Party collective Kampong Boogie transforms OverEasy Orchard into a dazzling discotheque with the grooves of funk, soul, hip hop, and house by names like Funk Bstrd, DJ Alx, Senja, Intriguant, Casie Lane, and Joshua P. Just before midnight arrives, count down the seconds with the diner’s ball drop.

Loco Royale

Sip on margaritas and chow down on good grub at this Mexican fiesta, with a four-hour free-flow buffet of tacos, meats, desserts, and drinks from 8pm to midnight. From your perch along the waterfront promenade, you’ll be privy to pretty damn good views of the fireworks, too.

Maggie Joan’s NYE Countdown

This indoor street party piles on the free-flow wines, beers, and BBQ bites for your final calorific meal of the year, with underground beats for you to dance till 2019.

Marina Bay Singapore Countdown

There’s tons to do at the largest NYE party in Singapore — light projection shows at various landmarks around Marina Bay, The Promontory’s Let’s Celebrate 2019 concert (free for the first time), a food truck fest at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, music performances by local acts at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, car-free activities around the Civic District such as movie screenings and salsa dancing, and the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival, which goes on till March next year.

If you’re cool with crowds, this waterfront area’s your best bet. Plus, in a first, an hour-long fireworks and stage show will take place before midnight, as part of the Star Island Singapore Countdown Edition. The brainchild of Japanese entertainment group Avex, this next level pyrotechnics display features lights, roving performances, dancers, Taiko drummers, and loads more.

4pm-late at Marina Bay and Civic District. 

 

No Ragrets

No looking back, no ragrets regrets in 2018. Just leave it all behind on the Zouk dance floor to the giddying beats of Top 40s, hip hop, trap, and bass, while mingling with the roving talents and marching band performances.

10pm-late at Zouk, 3C River Valley Rd, The Cannery. $60.

 

Real Retro

For a change of scene, cozy up to your best drinking buds at new cocktail bar Eliza, where the liquid libations are potent and smooth, and the Shanghai-inspired bites are worlds apart from your typical bar grub. Before 2019 arrives, the resident live band will turn back the clock with old school melodies from the likes of Belinda Carlisle, Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, Madonna, and more.

5pm-late at Eliza, 113 Telok Ayer St. First drink charge after 9pm.

 

Shanghai Nights

Harken back to 1930s Shanghai at Sear, with a buffet dinner of fresh seafood, BBQ meats, and desserts followed by endless partying at Empire Sky Lounge and Angie’s Bar for views of Marina Bay getting lit, as well as a never-before-seen space called The Red Room, where urban hip hop beats keep the party going till early morning.

Siloso Beach Party

The annual beach rave returns for its 12th edition with two stages of pumped-up music by DJs Jay Hardway, Kaylova, Luane, Youkeep, and Twins Gone Wrong, plus fireworks skyrocketing into the night sky at the stroke of midnight.

Sin City: One Last Night of Debauchery

Let loose on the last night of the year at The Warehouse Hotel’s inaugural black, red, and glitz NYE party, a wickedly cheeky soiree with dance performances by showgirls The Glamourettes, disco funk from DJ KFC, and sultry sax melodies by Kaye from Darker Than Wax.

Studio 54

Dress in your best Studio 54-style threads for a throwback night at brewery Little Creatures, where the locally crafted brews go for $8 all night, and the DJ spins all the best tunes of the ’70s.

The Final Countdown

It’s the final countdown to 2019 at arcade bar Nineteen80, so swing by for the best tracks from the ’80s to the noughties.

Winter’s Garden

We may be in the tropics, but Lulu’s Lounge is going full-on winter wonderland with its year-end party, guest starring drag queens, stilt walkers, jugglers, musicians, and more.
