Co-working spaces are aplenty in Singapore, with new and niche ones popping up across the island every few months. But Mox is different. Catering to creatives — entrepreneurs, designers, craftsmen, and basically anyone in the creative industry — the independent design resource workspace takes up three levels in the newly refurbished Katong Point mall with its offices, co-working spaces, retail stores and workshop areas.
On the first floor, you’ll find retail shops like Cakerholic — which bakes up a sweet storm of cakes and pastries in between hosting baking workshops — next to David’s Daughter, a store with apparel and accessories that seek to empower women in their message.
If you’re looking for a pretty bouquet, hop over to Hello Flowers, a social enterprise floral studio that partners with social service agencies and volunteer groups to employ workers. Or swing by Tee-saurus for a glimpse at a towering T-Rex sculpture next to locally-inspired knick knacks by homegrown designers.
But the coolest space on the floor has to be Choice Cuts Goods + Coffee, an industrial chic cafe — founded by DJ collective Matteblacc — with stacks of vinyls and street merch displayed by the walls.
To check out the studio spaces of artists and craftsmen, head up to the second level, where you can get items stamped with customized prints by Snupped or upcycled products and furniture from Triple Eyelid.
If you’re simply interested in settling down at a co-working space, the Peranakan-tiled third floor hosts flexible desks, lockers, private offices, a pantry and even a nap room (just in case you’re burning the midnight oil). Part-time membership goes for $50 a month; or you can try it out with a one-day pass at $30. For those who want something more permanent, flexible desks costs $295 per month, permanent desks will set you back $400 per month, and private officers go for $500 per month.
Besides the workspaces, Mox also offers facilities for the creative community, including a sewing room stocked with industrial-grade machines, carpentry machineries, laser cutters, an auditorium, a 3D printing room with design software, an exhibition space, and a photography studio. Anyone keen on renting a space to host workshops, classes and seminars can also get in touch with Mox.
As if to emphasize the creativity of it all, artists are brought in to cover the walls of the building with whatever inspires them at the moment — and these artworks can change every so often.
