Heads up, Easties. A shiny new cineplex has just popped up in your neighborhood — Golden Village Paya Lebar officially opens today at the equally as shiny and new SingPost Centre (where Gong Cha will set up its flagship store this December).

Located on the third level of the mall, the 756-seat cinema is — can you believe it — the first to open along the East-West Line between Bugis and Tampines (excluding the two stops). If you haven’t noticed, there aren’t exactly any movie theatres at those nine train stations — unless you veer off course a little and head to the newly-opened Cathay Parkway Parade at Marine Parade Road, GV Katong at 112 Katong mall, or Shaw Theatres nex in Serangoon.

So yea, movie buffs who live in the area can now rejoice, especially since GV Paya Lebar is hailed as Singapore’s first laser projection multiplex. All eight auditoriums will house the new system, which is said to display clearer imagery and high color saturation (basically, sharper and brighter projections).

Other features include a Duo Deluxe hall, which offers twin leather seats in a 58-seater cinema, and a grab & Gold cafe that serves up new dishes like banana fritters, basil cheese pizza and beef chilli cheese fries — all of which you can munch on in the cinema hall.

Tickets for the standard halls are $6.50 on weekdays and $13 on weekends, while tickets for the deluxe hall go for $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends.

As for those in the Bedok area, the 600-seater GV Bedok is expected to open in revamped building that was previously home to Princess Theatre early next year.
