For the third edition of Objectifs’ Women in Photography exhibition — which celebrates the contributions of women to the arts — the works of eight international female photographers will take the spotlight, exploring issues of domesticity, family ties and feminine identity.
Among them is a representative from Singapore: Bernice Wong. The independent documentary photographer raises up the issue of urban poverty and social inequality in the Little Red Dot with her series titled School of Hard Knocks, which follows the journey of a single mother who has seven children and is a mentor to a group of at-risk youths.

The rest — who hail from countries like Belgium, Iran, Vietnam, the United States, Bangladesh and France — will visit Singapore for two days at the exhibition’s opening to host public talks about their art.
Subjects covered include everything from the domestic help in Bangladesh to the repercussions of war on daily life in the Middle East to a peek into the homes of strangers across the United States. Each telling a story about the societies in which they live and work, the photographers highlight topics such as politics, gender, sexuality, cultural identity and oppression through their work.

Women in Photography is on from Oct 13-Nov 19, Tues-Sat noon-7pm, Sun noon-4pm at Objectifs Chapel Gallery. Artist talks on Oct 13-14. Free.
