Singapore’s CBD isn’t exactly a place for people to take leisurely strolls or indulge in a bout of retail therapy. People mostly check in to work on weekdays, leaving the place a ghost town on weekends.

But if you ever feel like you need a break from office politics and what not, swing by the Downtown Gallery at Shenton Way for grab-and-go food, a cooking session, or to pick up skincare items from the beauty bar. With three new retail concepts — OUE Social Kitchen, OUE Re:Store and OUE Beauty Bar — the mall beckons tired office workers over to its sleek new premises.

OUE Social Kitchen

At OUE Social Kitchen, 10 spaces styled by Smeg are up for reservation, and they’re all stocked with state-of-the-art cooking equipment for everyone to use — from home chefs to cooking amateurs. The “co-cooking space” encourages communal dining with its eating area that’s open to all, so you can host family and friends there after you’ve cooked up a storm in the kitchen. Oh, and the best part is, staff are on hand to help you out with the dreaded clean-up process.

OUE Re:Store

As for OUE Re:Store, the auto-deli is all about convenient service — customers can place orders and note your preferred pick-up time on an app, which allows you to skip those awful lunch hour queues. The menu offers Indonesian, Peranakan, Filipino and local cuisine priced between $8 to $12, and everything comes in a bento box for easy eating.

OUE Beauty Bar

Then there’s the OUE Beauty Bar. Appealing to beauty junkies across the nation, the digitally enhanced beauty store features four beauty vending machines with giant touchscreen displays for shoppers to browse through more than 140 skincare and makeup items. The machines also offer up product information, videos and complementary items (to ensure that your pockets are pretty much emptied out by the time you leave the place).

Downtown Gallery is at 6A Shenton Way.
