An aspiring actor looking to enter the television industry with the help of professional actor G Selvananthan went to the police early this morning to accuse the latter of sending him lewd text messages.
The accuser, a man identified on Facebook as Dev Muthu, said this morning that he filed a police complaint against the Vasantham channel star over text exchanges that went back over two months. Reached for comment this morning, the 53-year-old TV actor, who also goes by the name Selva, referred questions to a statement he posted last night that his account may have been hacked.
“I simply wish to say, I did not send any inappropriate message via Facebook,” Selvananthan wrote last night. “I believe my account was hacked before this incident, which I was not aware [of]. I am currently seeking legal advice on the next appropriate course of actions.”
Two days ago, Dev, 26, had posted screenshots of WhatsApp and Facebook messenger exchanges between him and Selvananthan’s account that began with Selvananthan seeming to recruit Dev for a show that Dev said he was too busy for.
The messages then took a creepy turn with comments on Dev’s shirtless photos, describing his body as “smooth,” “hairless,” and having a “great cut.”
“Saw your recent body shot nice n sexy,” one of the messages sent from Selvananthan’s Facebook account said, later adding: “What’s with this partial nudity ….very intrigued.”

Dev was then asked to give a “private show,” offered a “celebrity blow job,” and told that he would need to sleep with “anybody [and] everybody” to appear on Vasantham channel, owned by Mediacorp. Dev didn’t appear to engage Selvananthan’s sexual advances but let the conversations continue.
According to unredacted portions of a Yishun police complaint in a photo posted by Dev, the incidents began Jan. 29 and continued through yesterday.
Selvananthan owns the Avant Theatre & Language company and works freelance for Mediacorp. The broadcasting company has denied that he has anything to do with the company’s casting decisions.
“Mediacorp would like to state categorically that G Selvananthan and his theatre company do not have any influence – direct or indirect – on the casting for any production for Vasantham,” a statement to Coconuts said yesterday. The company also noted that it was aware of the social media posts about Selvananthan.
Dev had described Selvananthan as his childhood idol and said he was excited when he was offered a role in a theatre show. But after receiving those messages, Dev said he decided to go public to alert other budding artists.
“Before [I] start with this [I] wanna say that [I] had [utmost] respect for this sick feller here since my childhood days, and the moment [I] received a msg from him asking me whether am [I] interested to join him in his theatre drama, [I] was [a bit] excited cause he brought up many people,” Dev wrote Tuesday.
He added: “This is [an] alarm to upcoming artists who have dreams to make it to the media line. Cause [it’s] still happening everywhere around the world, not only in SINGAPORE. I [may be] totally banned from appearing again on tv again just when [I] had the opportunity again to reappear on tv after a few months,” he added.
Selvananthan has appeared in television dramas such as Truth Prevails and talk show Anthanaal Nyabagam on the Vasantham channel. According to his LinkedIn account, he has been in theatre for two decades.
