The Marina Bay waterfront is gonna be (literally) lit in March with 20 light art installations

Marina Bay will be shining, shimmering, splendid come March, as the spotlight shines on 20 sustainable light art installations at the waterfront. Lit up in all its dazzling glory, i Light Marina Bay’s fifth edition features creations by local and international artists centering around the idea of ‘Light & Nature’. The catch? They’re all designed with energy-saving lighting or environmentally-friendly materials.

And for the first time since its debut, the event will see three festival hubs at The Promontory @ Marina Bay, The Float @ Marina Bay and the Bayfront Event Space set to the themes of sustainability, imaginative play and lifestyle respectively. That means you’ll get a chance to take part in activities such as a recycling and upcycling marketplace, a kinetic energy playground and an inflatable playground in an imaginative zoological garden, as well as check out immersive theatre performances, an urban farming showcase, and an arts and crafts fair.

Besides the gorgeous stunners by established artists and collaborations with overseas light art festivals, i Light Marina Bay will also feature five installations designed by students from National University of Singapore, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore University of Technology and Design, LASALLE College of the Arts, and Raffles College of Higher Education.

Check out the pics below for a glimpse of what to expect.

‘Urchin’ — Sea urchins inspired this textured creation that interacts with light.
‘Northern Lights’ — One hundred LED light lines attempt to recreate the natural phenomenon that is the aurora borealis.
‘The Colorful Garden of Light’ — It’s like spring time in our forever-summer city, with multi-hued butterflies and pretty peonies.
‘Dande-lier’ — The lightweight umbrellas of various sizes come together to form a dandelion. Photo: COLOURS
‘Hybycozo’ — This work is influenced by science, technology, geometry and the artists’ favourite book, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
‘Home’ — What looks like a kid’s sketch is an illuminated illusory image in the shape of a house.
‘The Body of the Sea’ — Watch the Merlion change its skin with a constant tide of colours and textures.
‘(ultra) light network’ — A structure that’s made with 150 3D-printed nodes floats 2.5m overhead and forms intense patterns of light when people get closer.
‘MoonFlower’ — The luminescent pieces featuring solar-powered LED allow you to walk through a ‘field’ of glow-in-the-dark flowers.

i Light Marina Bay is on from Mar 3-26, daily 7.30pm-11pm (with extended hours to midnight on Fri & Sat) at Marina Bay waterfront promenade. Free.
