If you’ve been a longtime observer of the local music scene, the illustrious name of KittyWu Records should be no stranger to you.
Since its launch in 2007, the homegrown record label has become synonymous with some of the sophisticated names in independent music, both local and abroad. They’re responsible for bringing the acclaimed likes of Envy, Russian Circles and Deafheaven to our shores, while also helping fly the Singapore flag high with the stable of local bands under their wing — MONSTER CAT, I Am David Sparkle, Caracal and more — in multiple festivals and tours abroad.

A decade after the eminent label started out, the founding cool cats of KittyWu — Lesley Chew and Errol Tan — are still going strong in Singapore’s independent music scene. As part of their 10th anniversary, they’re having a huge blowout in the most KittyWu manner possible — a weekend of music filled with intricate, fiery guitar melodies, dynamic tempos and gorgeous soundscapes.
Happening next month at the Esplanade Annexe Studio, you could say that it’s a KittyWu festival of sorts. The party kicks off on May 5 with prominent math-rock outfits TTNG and Mylets in a night dedicated to angular riffs and odd time signatures.

The revelry continues on May 6 in Celebrating 10 Years of KittyWu, where the local likes of Amateur Takes Control, Forests, T-Rex, Paris In The Making, blankverse, as well as Malaysian trio Dirgahayu will be tearing the stage apart.

Tickets are out online — stay updated on the KittyWu Records Facebook page.
