Soon, couples in Singapore’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community no longer have to sit around and wonder about the legalities of their relationships and marital statuses, thanks to a project kicked off by a bisexual lawyer.

Together with the help of fellow lawyers, as well as law students, academics and a team of editors, marketers and designers, 29-year-old Indulekshmi Rajeswari will be publishing the Legal Guidebook for LGBT Couples & Families in Singapore come June.

Soon to be made available for free online as an e-book, the publication is modelled after LGBT guidebooks already available in other countries. LGBT couples will be able to find answers to legal issues such as marriage and cohabitation contracts, property, wills, inheritance, and more — all written according to the context of local laws.

Speaking to The Straits Times, Indulekshmi states that it’s a project she and a team of 18 volunteers have embarked on since November 2015 — it’s one that was inspired by friends who frequently asked her questions about the laws concerning LGBT relationships.

It’s not an entirely self-funded undertaking. To help fund their project, the team launched a crowdfunding campaign last week to great success — over $20,000 has been raised so far to help print copies of the guide. They’ll then be distributed to LGBT organizations in Singapore.

The support has been great too, it seems:
