Laneway Festival Singapore adds local shoegaze icons Astreal and more into 2017 lineup

More news from team Laneway about their 2017 lineup! Still no heavy hitters, but the acts they’ve newly confirmed for the indie music festival at The Meadows looks to be assuredly diverse in both genre and language.

The festival’s injecting another dose of homegrown music into the affair with the addition of Singapore’s own shoegaze/noise pop outfit Astreal. Been a while since we’ve heard from them, but it seems that they’re making a huge comeback with a new EP just in time for Laneway Festival Singapore in January. The fact that it’s been 10 years since their last record Fragments of The Same Dead Star makes us feel old though.

Japan gets a huge dose of lovin’ too with up and coming acts from Nihon-koku making it to the Laneway Festival Singapore lineup for the first time. Buoyed his acclaimed albums Dirt and Dirt II, buzzworthy hip-hop artiste Kohh will be dropping by for some dark Japanese rhymes. It helps that you’re already acquainted with him through Keith Ape’s ‘It G Ma’ and the alternate version of Frank Ocean’s ‘Nikes’.

Also representing Japan will be electronic project Wednesday Campanella, who’ll be taking audiences on a voyage through an unorthodox journey combining IDM, lounge, drum n’ bass, house, synthpop and more.

Then there’s the hard-hitting addition melodic punk rock quartet Luca Brasi, who’ve garnered fans swiftly across their home country Australia with infectious guitar riffs and sing-along choruses. Fellow Aussie act Tash Sultana will also be playing in the festival — a step-up from busking in the streets of Melbourne and showing off her multi-instrumental prowess in her bedroom.

Chicago collective Whitney will be providing some needed soothing tunes at The Meadows. Their rustic, laid-back indie pop sound has seen touring in various spots including Governers Ball, Bonnaroo, Pitchfork Music Festival — and soon at Laneway Festival Singapore.
