For anyone who’s been dreaming of the good old ’80s, you’ll wanna get into the time machine that is Kult Gallery, as it transforms into an old school record store for six weeks. More than 20 artists — including the likes of local designer fFurious, Russian artist Andrew Flakonkishochki and Aussie collective Babekuhl — have collaborated to come up with loads of remixed album art, deconstructed vinyls and art installations. All inspired by David Bowie, of course.
The throwback sesh doesn’t stop there — you can dig through the curated selection of vinyls, record players and ‘zines to recreate the ’80s mood at home, or make your own vinyl artwork to bring back and hang on your walls.
Also look out for hour-long sets featuring covers of ’80s classes and pop tunes with a retro spin by local musicians like blues rock trio The Baits, ambient folk performer Bennett Bay, and electro pop act Yllis.
Power Records is on from Sept 16-Oct 31 at Kult Gallery, Blk C2-5 Emily Hill, 11 Upper Wilkie Rd. Free.
