It’s 2019. Which means Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore’s $1.7 billion project, will finally open this year. And the date has been set for April 17.
By now, you would’ve heard all about the retail, dining, and entertainment concepts coming to town, including the likes of Shake Shack and A&W, as well as a Pokémon Center, Nike’s largest outlet in Southeast Asia, and new-to-Singapore brands such as Xiao Bin Lou, Pink Fish, Tonito, and Läderach. Plus, let’s not forget local names represented by Naiise, Supermama, Violet Oon, and the world’s first Tiger Street Lab.
Anyway, if you can’t wait to take in the majesty of the Forest Valley or the Rain Vortex, the 10-story development is actually opening its doors to the public before its official launch. So excited individuals, micro-influencers who need to keep their IG stories updated, and anyone with FOMO can take the opportunity to sneak a peek.
From Apr 11 to 16, the free preview will be open to Singapore residents. But you’ll first have to sign up for one of the 500,000 tickets — registration opens online on Mar 12 at 6am, and each person can put down up to four names.
The event will run over four three-hour time blocks from 10am to 10pm in the days leading up to Jewel’s debut, and visitors can explore the four-story Forest Valley and its two walking trails or come up close to the 40m Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. More than 90 percent of the shops and dining outlets will also be open for business.
However, the Canopy Park, which spans the size of 11 Olympic swimming pools, will not be open to the public until mid-2019.
