In 2007, Mandopop star Jay Chou made his directorial feature debut with Secret, the romantic Taiwanese film he starred in that garnered him multiple nominations at awards ceremonies across the region. More than a decade later, the movie has been adapted into his first stage musical, which will hit our shores in April this year.
Featuring popular tunes by the crooner, the production revolves around a piano major Xianglun and his fellow student Xiaoyu, as a secret that intertwines their lives is revealed amidst a time-traveling love story.

Of course, you can’t expect everything to be exactly the same as it was from the movie, but this Broadway rendition will include some of his biggest hits — including Fine Day, The Tea That Grandpa Makes, and Clear Stars — comedic dialogue, unexpected new sub-storylines, and Broadway dance arrangements.

As for fans of the Taiwanese musician who can’t wait to see him on stage, he’ll be in town for his sold-out (sorry) National Stadium concert this Saturday.
The Secret is on from Apr 6-15, Tues-Fri 8pm, Sat 2pm & 8pm, Sun 1pm & 6pm at Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. $48-$148.
