We love it when Ikea gets cheeky. The Swedish furniture giant has made a name for itself when it comes to poking fun at other brands, so of course it had to respond when the internet erupted in a flurry of comparisons after luxury brand Balenciaga launched its Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote Bag (which bore an uncanny resemblance to Ikea’s Frakta bag).
See if you can spot the differences below.
(Side note: Remember when Balenciaga’s colorful striped tote looked eerily similar to Thailand’s humble plastic shopping bag? Fun times.)
Anyway, the obvious difference between the two bags is their price tags — a mere 90 cents will get you Ikea’s reusable tote, while Balenciaga’s upmarket ‘blue wrinkled, glazed leather’ version will set you back US$2,145 (S$2,992). But if you’d like a crash course on how to identify the OG Ikea Frakta bag — so you don’t unknowingly purchase the wrong one — here are four signs, brought to you with tongue firmly in cheek by Swedish creative agency ACNE.
So for those who aspire to be fashionable on a limited budget, get Ikea’s ‘unlimited edition’ bag that’s ‘300 times more affordable’.
