Singapore’s west siders no longer have to travel far to chomp down on Swedish meatballs and chicken wings while lugging a trolley full of home decor.
Furniture retailer IKEA opened its third store in Singapore today at the Jem shopping mall located west of the country, right next to Jurong East MRT station. It is much smaller than other outlets here, but is still packed with more than 2,500 home furnishings as well as a restaurant and food market.
The outlet is over 6,500 square feet in area and occupies a three-floor space at the shopping mall, which was previously rented out to the now-defunct Robinsons department store. It has more than 12 decorated showrooms as well as self-checkout counters to prevent long queues.
At the restaurant, there is an interactive projection wall with motion sensors for kids to play. A dedicated pick up service allows customers to order food before arriving at the store.
To celebrate its opening, the furniture empire gave out 500 tote bags to its early customers and distributed the latest physical copy of their furniture catalog.
