Hit up this free Caribbean street party at Jiak Chuan Road for a night of dancing

The pavements of Jiak Chuan Road will be ablaze with activity on Saturday, thanks to this Caribbean-themed street party by Urban Ventures. To celebrate the third anniversary of Lime House (and also ’cause everyone loves a good reason to let loose), the place will be transformed into a carnival, complete with arts activities, live music and dance performances.

Before the sun sets, turn up to participate in the Un-Olympic Games — we take it this means you don’t have to be Joseph Schooling to have a shot at winning a gold medal — or get your groove on at a salsa dancing lesson by the roadside. If you’d rather stand around and watch others get their two left feet tangled, bop to the drum beats of the Batucada performance by Bloco Singapura.

Of course, there’ll be loads of tunes to keep the atmosphere alive. Think reggae, Afrobeats, hip hop and Latin at the street DJ set party, and live salsa sizzlers by DJ Manny. If you find yourself on a high by 9pm (from the $12 rum cocktails), get in line to limbo your way to freebies in the 15-minute contest.

After all that, the party continues at Lime House from 10.30pm onwards, where DJ Bhayology will unleash a mix of Caribbean Soca and Afrobeats for your dancing pleasure.

Caribbean Bloc Party is on Aug 20, 4pm-10.30pm at Jiak Chuan Rd. Free.
