Universal Studios Singapore is great and all, but if you’re searching for extreme adventure that won’t require you to leave the comfort of your seat or work up a sweat amongst the throngs, HeadRock VR is your best bet. Opening at Resorts World Sentosa on Nov 17 — and giving USS a run for its money — the indoor attraction is hailed as our island’s first virtual reality “theme park”.
With 11 themed rides that are open to kids as young as six, the digital entertainment spot takes visitors on an adrenaline-spiked journey, from steering through crashing waves of river rapids in Jungle Rafting to plummeting from a height of 1km into molten magma at Flying Dive. Plus, you get to embark on a dog sled ride in the midst of a harrowing winter blizzard — without the actual dangers, of course.
To get yourself used to navigating around the virtual realm with head gear and motion controls, make the VR Room your first stop and try your hand at sports like fencing and baseball or arcade shooting games. Then start from the basics with Robin Hood, an archery game, or Zombie Busters, where you’ll attempt to save the apocalyptic world from the undead.
If thrills are what you’re seeking, strap on for leaps and drops in the jungle escapade that is Jump Jump, or test your hand-eye coordination at Beat Saber.
Other experiences includes Extreme Train, a rollercoaster-like voyage that plows through herds of dinosaurs (with local landmarks making brief appearances); Skyscraper, an elevator ride to a hundred stories high peppered with evil robots; and Horror Room, which drops you into a freaky film surrounded by all things spooky.
The rides are all divided into three categories, and you can mix it up with packages that start from three experiences (one from each group) for $35. Oh, and if you pop by any time from opening day to Dec 16, you’ll get a 15 percent discount as well.
