Last April, Great World City began its makeover, scheduled to be completed in phases over two years. Now that we’re at the halfway mark, 50 percent of the refurbishment works have been completed, and the 22-year-old mall is set to house more than its current line-up of 18 new tenants once everything’s up and running in 2020.
It’s still as family-friendly as ever, with the introduction of newcomers like children fitness program My Gym and Abrakadoodle Art Studio, alongside the reopening of Amazonia, which brings in new features like a trampoline basketball court, an interactive AI gaming zone, and themed birthday party rooms.
As more businesses pop up periodically across the next couple months, the mall is hoping to get at least three quarters of its vendors to open their doors before the end of the year.
Other brands that’ve launched or are launching at Great World City include Awfully Chocolate, Koi Thé, dim sum spot Masa by Black Society, Korean-style Myeongdong Hair Studio, photography studio Mama Razzi, Pulse TCM Clinic, Spa Esprit, Japanese restaurant issho izakaya, hairstylist Evolve Salon, and meatless eatery Elemen.
Plus, Japanese grocer Meidi-Ya is officially opening its sophomore outlet here on June 27, with a range of fresh produce, Japanese products, and liquor such as sake, shochu, and beer. This marks its second outlet in Singapore in 16 years, and will differ from the Liang Court branch with a greater focus on products made in Japan. There’ll also be a 40-seater dining area at its Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza offering Hokkaido fare like Sapporo ramen, Shiroi Koibito cookies, and Jaga Pokkuru potatoes. The space will host seasonal specials and fairs throughout the year as well.
