The Great Moscow Circus is in town for the first time in over a decade, bringing with it 16 acts from Russia and beyond, gathered under the red-and-white tent next to Marina Bay Sands.
For four weeks, the line-up of aerial acrobats, daredevil motorcyclists, crazy contortionists, enigmatic illusionists and clowns will put on a show supported by a live band, packed into a space that’s just cozy enough for you to get a decent view even from the far-away seats.
It’s got all the thrills and spills of family-friendly entertainment, led by ringmaster Stanislav Knyazkov, who happens to be a juggler and a clown as well. To keep the vibe lighthearted, master clown Dmitry Shindrov pops into the ring every now and then to get a couple chuckles out of the crowd in between acts.
Acrobatic highlights include a glamorous aerialist duo who spin and twist in the air without any safety net or wires as back-up, a “fast track” troupe that tumbles and leaps across the space unceasingly, and “the man in the glass box” contortionist who is literally unveiled boxed up in a container.
Then there’s the “globe of death”, which cranks the noise level up a notch with five speeding motorcyclists circling around a steel contraption. And if you’re a fan of Britain’s Got Talent, you may recognize Sascha Williams, the rola bola artist who wowed even Simon Cowell with his balancing act.
Also expect to see a juggler, a pair of “quick change transformationists” (who we assume can change clothes in the blink of an eye), horizontal bar performers, a trampoline stunt group, Scottish skippers, and a double giant wheel that spins while carrying four acrobats.
