Having already made an explosive and intriguing entry into the music scene over four years ago, experimental rock outfit sub:shaman have returned to please our aural curiosities once again with the upcoming release of their debut full-length album Apnea.

One doesn’t need to look further than their incendiary single ‘A-Hole’, which should pretty much prep you for all the “technical melodies and primal grooves” you can expect with Apnea, which will have its launch showcase at the Esplanade Annexe Studio come May 13.

The band’s signature sound — one that’s aptly described as possessing a basic essence of prog-rock combined with hints of math-rock and jazz —gets the album cover art it deserves by artist Marc Gabriel Loh, whose intention is to represent “the tensions within and the experience of drowning in the world”.

sub:shaman frontwoman Weish agrees, describing how their album “narrates some of our biggest vulnerabilities, recurring imagery that haunts us in dreams, our relationship with sleep paralysis and insomnia”.

Apnea drops on May 12, with pre-orders now available on iTunes. Tickets to their launch show are available online via Peatix at $15, $20 at the door. Stay updated on the sub:shaman Facebook page.
