English funnyman John Cleese is bringing his veneration of all things silly, from incomprehensible mimes and Algerian love songs to the National University of Singapore.
Cleese, 80, will take the stage of the University Cultural Centre Hall on March 7 as part of his In Praise of Silly tour. It will be the tour’s only Southeast Asian stop, the legendary comic actor and writer said in a statement yesterday.
“It’s been too long since I was in Singapore. Last time I enjoyed it very much and looking forward to coming back. This will be the only Asian stop in South East Asia. See you all in March,” he said. His last visit to the city-state was in 2014, when he sold out two back-to-back shows at the same venue.
Cleese is perhaps best known as one of the founding members of surreal British television comedy series Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which had tremendous influence over the development of contemporary Western comedy. It first aired on the BBC in 1969.
He is also a voice actor and has performed in several major animated movies including Shrek, in which he voiced King Harold.
His Singapore show is organized by LA Comedy Live and Adrian Bohm. Tickets start at S$118 and are on sale online via SISTIC.
