Hailed as Asia’s first conscious festival, Green is the New Black pops up for the second time on our shores, bringing with it speakers, brands, musicians and more. If you haven’t heard of this, think of it as a curated platform to highlight local names who are doing a world of good in their own ways. There’ll be talks, workshops, a marketplace, live music performances and, of course, a party to wrap things up in a nice little bow.
And when you register for an activity, the fest will sponsor extra tuition classes for young girls in Cambodia, in collaboration with partnering organisation Buy1Give1.
Since the talks are one of the main components of Green is the New Black, check them out to explore conscious living, working and fashion. There’s ‘Being’, where you learn to overcome self-doubt and handle your inner critic; ‘Doing’, where you seek purpose in your career and connect with movers and shakers to make an impact; and ‘Having’, where you find out how to be sustainable and ethical when it comes to fashion.
If all that sounds a little too abstract for you, head over to the marketplace, which will be filled with homegrown conscious brands hawking their fashion, art, beauty and lifestyle wares, as well as food and drinks. Expect to see names such as Hook Coffee, We Are Cultured, FrankSkincare, Thin Within and lots more. There’ll also be a stage featuring local music acts, and a pool party to end off the festival. Or if you’d like to get hands-on, sign up for workshops to learn stuff like how to grow your own herbs and veggies in upcycled containers.
Green is the New Black is on Oct 22, 9am-9pm at Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore, 1A Cuscaden Rd. Free, with fees for talks and workshops.
