Singaporean graphic designer Lim Qi Xuan has turned her obsession with the tactility of flesh and skin into an art. Just click on her Instagram account and you’ll find a constant stream of photos featuring morbidly fascinating sculptures of body parts, such as faces stamped on macarons, a pie stuffed with bloody little hearts, and lollipops in the shape of baby faces.

The 26-year-old — who’s currently pursuing her master’s degree in Information Design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands — told The Straits Times that it’s the everyday objects that inspire her when it comes to this hobby of hers.

It all started about four years ago when she began experimenting sculpting polymer oven-baked clay during her apprenticeship programme with Noise Singapore. Since then, she has displayed her artworks in group shows at venues like the ArtScience Museum and Deck.

“I have always been fascinated by art or objects that are both repulsive and alluring at the same time,” Lim told ST, adding that she likes to “present something precious and charming”, with “little elements that creep you out”.

Her works, intriguing as they may be, do lean on the macabre side — so if you’ve got a weak stomach for this sort of stuff, we suggest you look away now. If not, check out some of her works below.
