Capsule hostels surprisingly number quite a few in Singapore — from COO Boutique Hostel to Cube Boutique Capsule Hotel to 7 Wonders Hostel — and needless to say, they’re definitely not for the claustrophobic. But while they each have their own themed decor and little details about them that appeal to different travelers, they probably can’t measure up to the cool factor of MET A Space Pod.
The futuristic room-and-board, self-hailed as Singapore’s first space-themed luxury capsule hostel, is tucked away at shop houses in two locations — Boat Quay and Little India. That means travelers can choose to have waterfront views in a central location or stay in a heritage district near 24-hour shopping mall Mustafa Centre.
Nowhere near as restrictive as one of those coffin-sized Japanese capsule pods, the ones here are rather spacious, even when they’re stacked atop one another. Options range from single space pods for one person to double space pods with a queen-sized bed to pods with riverside views.
Now for the cool part: All pods come equipped with snazzy high tech systems, where you can switch up light and air-conditioner settings by swiping the touch screen panel. And even though the hostel’s a pretty affordable stay, it still offers amenities like TVs, safe boxes, foldable tables, and illuminated mirrors in each capsule, as well as lockers to stow your luggages, towels, free wi-fi, toiletries in the communal bathrooms, a lounge, and a cafe.
However, the pods aren’t totally soundproof, so just remember to keep your noise levels down and you won’t be branded as one of those annoying neighbors.
MET A Space Pod is at 424 Race Course Rd and 51 Boat Quay.
