The latest app to get us hooked has transformed popular Singaporeans into Disney characters, including one beloved fictional contractor.

Cartoon avatars by American-made ToonMe have been making the rounds in Singaporean social media, with everyone from top celebs, pols and, yes, even Phua Chu Kang getting the big-eye treatment. While some turn out humorously accurate, those that end up totally unrecognizable are proving just as amusing.

“[A]nyone else’s #ToonMe result look like absolute chaos?? no…?? just……me??? Ok :)),” Singaporean provocateur Preetipls wrote yesterday.

The app converts photos into different visual styles for users to choose from that range from simple vector act to comic book style illustrations. Tampines MP Baey Yam Keng posted the four versions of his mug, settling on one with a cell animation look.

“I say closest resemblance is bottom right, but I still prefer the original me. Not as cute, but that’s me,” Baey wrote yesterday.

Developed by Linerock Investments, the app launched in August. It lets users upload or take a photo that it then renders in a variety of styles, many with an unlicensed, Disney-adjacent look.

Prominent Singaporean-Chinese actors Christopher Lee, Mark Lee and Zoe Tay as well as Gurmit Singh as Phua Chu Kang were among many to get tooned. Politicians have included Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Opposition Leader Pritam Singh and Progress Singapore Party’s Tan Cheng Bock who weren’t spared either.
