This weekend, Singapore will be lit with two new light extravaganzas in the Marina area — Marina Bay Sands debuts its new light and water show called Spectra on June 2, while Gardens by the Bay celebrates its fifth anniversary with a multimedia showcase on June 3 and 4.

With its water fountain techniques, lava and mist effects, a 12m-tall laminated glass prism, orchestral soundtrack, and new underwater 500 watt LED elements, Spectra at MBS replaces Wonder Full, the previous show that ran from Feb 2011 till last month. The 15-minute display, which tells the tale of Singapore and its journey to a cosmopolitan society, is free to watch and will be staged twice a night at 8pm and 9pm from Sunday to Thursday, with an additional show on Friday and Saturday at 10pm.

As for Gardens by the Bay, its Gardens Extravaganza Special will only be put on this weekend, with dancers, aerial performers, video mapping and special effects for the festivities at the Supertree Grove. To keep the swing of things going, there will also be a roving parade and a dance party. And if you pop by for the rest of June, you’ll get a glimpse of the fifth anniversary edition of the sound and light show, Garden Rhapsody.
