Capsule hotels aren’t for the claustrophobic, but they make a pretty decent stay when you’re on a budget — if you don’t mind squeezing yourself (and your stuff) into small spaces, that is. The newest hospitality brand at Kampong Glam, Cube Boutique Capsule Hotel’s second location opens almost two years after its first at Chinatown.
Situated in a restored two-story shop house, the accommodation offers 56 beds, a mix of singles and queens, each in their own cozy capsule. But just because you’re sacrificing on space doesn’t mean you have to give up homely comforts, too. The capsules here are insulated to reduce background noise when you’re trying to fall asleep, and each unit features a universal electrical outlet, a safe, a mirror/vanity area, a bedside light, a tiny area for hanging garments, and a locker drawer for storage.
The rooms, themselves named after the streets nearby, house anywhere between two and 18 capsules — and female travelers can opt for the ladies-only one with 12 capsules. Elsewhere, the bathrooms are communal areas with standing showers and basic toiletries, and a washing machine with complimentary detergent is provided for guests to use.
Those who can’t leave work behind can take advantage of the free Wi-Fi and work desks to catch up on deadlines in between meals at in-house restaurant Yasu Japanese Grill and trips to the Singapore Visitor Centre (in the same lobby) for information on local tours.
Price tags for a night’s stay here range between $50 and $120, with standard hotel essentials such as daily housekeeping, 24-hour concierge, airport pickups, and free breakfast offered to guests as well.
