Creating awareness and heightening appreciation for migrant communities in Singapore is what local non-profit creative collective Labour Arty does, through projects in visual, literary, and performing arts. One such upcoming concept by the group is a photography showcase called Blind Spots, opening at Objectifs in July.
The free exhibition attempts to document the everyday shared spaces between migrant workers and locals, with images capturing commonplace occurrences that are often seen but not really noticed. Many of these pictures include snapshots of the back of lorries that ferry these workers to and from their work sites — scenes that are familiar to us as a passing glance, but rarely deeper than that.
According to the team behind the project, Blind Spots will be an experiential exhibition, with interactive elements that allow people to engage with the lesser-known living and working environments of these foreign laborers while they browse through the display by photographers Abigail Han, Gaelan Gu, Lisabelle Tay, and Harriet Koh.
