Art of the week: ‘Can You Hear Us?’ by Ian Woo (May 20)

‘Can You Hear Us?’ by Ian Woo

With a third of 17 galleries at Gillman Barracks closing, it’s your last chance to visit the galleries this weekend! One work that you shouldn’t miss is Ian Woo’s “Can You Hear Us?” at Tomio Koyama Gallery. A massive work taking up the entire gallery wall, it is representative of the Singaporean painter’s abstract style. Layers of paint cover the canvas, overlapping in a seemingly accidental fashion. However, the combination of the brushstrokes with the artist’s cool colour palette ultimately creates a harmonious, peaceful sense in the work. Kim Tay

See “Can You Hear Us?” and more works by Ian Woo in Falling Off Plastic Chairs. Till 23 May at Tomio Koyama Gallery (47 Malan Road, #01-26 Gillman Barracks, S109444). Tue-Sat noon-7pm, Sun noon-6pm.
