Here’s your chance to have a glimpse of how the nation’s founding prime minister lived in his humble abode at 38 Oxley Road — the National Museum of Singapore has just launched a special exhibition chronicling the contributions made by the country’s founding leaders.
Now open to public, We Built A Nation pays tribute to to Singapore’s founding team of leaders by bringing visitors through their roles in developing the economy, infrastructure, foreign policy and diplomacy among many other milestones.
“This exhibition delves into a specific and significant era in our history that has not been presented in such detail before,” says museum director Angelita Teo. “In putting together the exhibition, the curators dug deep into personal and national archives to look at that moment in history.”

Highlights of the exhibition would be the over 100 artefacts, items, furniture and personal effects donated by the estate of the late Lee Kuan Yew. Never-seen-before documents, archival images, and personal objects such as Othman Wok’s typewriter and silverware presented as state gifts to Singapore’s first President Yusof Ishak will be put on display.
