Art of the week: ‘The Blue of Distance’ by Wyn-Lyn Tan

‘The Blue Distance’ by Wyn-Lyn Tan

In ‘The Blue of Distance’, Singaporean artist Wyn-Lyn Tan presents her first forays into working with wood as a surface material. The two unevenly shaped paintings share the same title as the exhibition and are created from cut plywood.

Tan has painted the entire surface with no edges left untouched, lending an immersive quality to the work. The organic movement suggested by the uneven edges of the shaped paintings is juxtaposed against the inherent stillness of the artist’s depicted landscapes. The abstract landscape is at once calming and intimidating, as one wonders what lies beyond the fog and rocky outcroppings discernible in the distance.

See more of Wyn-Lyn Tan’s works in The Blue of Distance at FOST Gallery (1 Lock Road, #01-02, Gillman Barracks, Singapore 108932). Till Oct 25. Tue-Sat 11am – 7pm, Sun 11am – 6pm.
