Art pop outfit alt-J to return for Singapore show in May

After making a spectacularly eccentric live debut in Laneway Festival Singapore last year, triangle-obsessed art pop/indie-rock/folktronica/uncategorizable outfit alt-J are set to make a return to our shores come May 2015.

The British Mercury Prize winners have made their mark in the realm of indie music with their particularly abnormal sound that is hard to define, containing wide-ranging elements of folk, electronic music, indie-pop, world music, trip-hop and other self-indulgent paradoxical sonic fusions — producing a radically different style of pop. Their unconventionality can be noted even from their band name, titled for the symbol ‘∆’ that appears when pressing both the ‘Alt’ and ‘J’ keys on a Mac.

Not content with sitting on their highly acclaimed debut An Awesome Wave which earned them the prestigious Mercury Prize and three Brit Award nominations, the English trio took their aural weirdness up to another level with the release of their sophomore effort This Is All Yours earlier in September, continuing their tradition of defiantly unorthodox pop that only deepened their fans’ affection and further drive away those who just don’t get their music.

Thanks to Secret Sounds Asia, alt-J will play live at The Coliseum on May 17 — tickets available at $105 through Sistic. Stay updated on the Facebook event page.
