This September, the geeks are taking over Marina Bay Sands in a weekend dedicated to pop culture in our very own Comic-Con; the annual Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC).
Returning to the vast halls of the Sands Expo & Convention Center, the eighth edition of the convention promises even more top-notch comic artists and celebrities on top of the usual vendors and exhibitors of comics, anime, toys, collectibles and games.
Expect to meet face to face with renowned multiple award-winning comic book illustrator Adam Hughes, who’s loved work has been seen in the likes of Marvel and DC comics including Captain America, Hellboy, Wonder Woman and Supergirl. Canadian urban contemporary painter, illustrator and comic artist Camilla d’Errico will also be headlining this year’s STGCC, showcasing her gorgeously surreal illustrations that weave both manga and western styles seamlessly, as well as the number of indie comics she has produced herself.
Fans of anime and manga should be happy to know that both Koyama Shigeto (of Disney’s Big Hero 6, G-Reko and Gunbuster 2 fame) as well as Sadamoto Yoshiyuki (of Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Wolf Children fame) will be dropping by the convention in person as well. Be sure to check out live music performances by Animenz and TAMUSIC, who’ll be playing their unique classical renditions of Japanes anime music.

Ensuring that the geeks dressing up as their favourite comic/TV/film characters get their just appreciation, the STGCC will also debut the Championships of Cosplay this year, getting the region’s top cosplayers and budding enthusiasts to strut it out on stage and potentially take part in the Crown Championships of Cosplay in Chicago — so you know it’s time to get your suit on (and no, not these suits).
All this and more come Sep 12 and 13; tickets on sale at Action City stores at $19 for a day and $28 for both days. Get your details on the official STGCC website.
