5 things you can expect at Coconuts Singapore’s Neon Lights block party this Saturday

Look, it’s been a rough past couple of weeks. Train services on the Circle Line keep getting disrupted; Zouk will be moving out of their Jiak Kim stronghold very soon; the supermoon turned out to be super-pathetic; the list goes on.

But there is a beacon of light that should help ease you through all the recent morose happenings: Rally in the Alley, Coconuts Singapore’s Neon Lights 2016 warm-up party that’s taking place this Saturday, Nov 19! We aren’t being elitist with the guest list too — everyone’s invited to our new digs at 70 Neil Road for our very own block party, and the first of hopefully many in time to come.

We’ll get into what you can expect at our party below, but let us assure you first off that it’s absolutely free entry. Nada, zilch, nothing needs to be paid… but you do have to RSVP via Eventbrite first to gain entry. All those who’ve already done so will get a wristband or a stamp, and maybe a hug too before entering the party.

Oh, you may be able to sign up at the door to enter, but no promises that you’ll get in — walk-ins are welcome to register on a first-come-first-serve basis. So it’s best that you confirm your entry early by RSVP-ing, instead of waiting in line.

For those ready to get turnt/lit/on fleek/other millennial jargon, here’s what you can expect at #RallyInTheAlleySG:

It’s rain or shine party

Yes, we know it’s been a very stormy past month and the wet weather isn’t going away anytime soon. But no matter — the show must go on. Rain or shine or sudden onslaught of snow, the party will still continue ’cause we’re setting up canopies across the alley. Don’t even worry about stuffiness; there’ll be fans installed to dissipate those dancing sweats you’ll be working up.

There’s free food (if you come early)

Finger foods abound with local munchies — but only if come early to the party. We’ve got easy edibles for you to nosh on that’ll be available for as long as it lasts, so if you’re looking to fuel up before the night, it’s best if you arrive on time. When we run out of food, you’re in luck because our office is situated right in the middle of Tanjong Pagar. Maxwell Food Centre and atas Keong Saik eateries are within easy walking distance.

There’s free alcohol all night long

You really can’t go wrong with free-flow drinks all night long. What else needs to be said when there’s unlimited Chang beer provided throughout the party’s duration? If you’re early enough, you might even be able to sup on some wine (limited quantities), courtesy of the kind folks behind BottlesXO. As you can tell from the free-flow beer, the party’s strictly for attendees aged 18 and above; IDs will be checked at the door.

What’s a soiree without fresh jams? DJs will be on decks outdoors to take the party to the next level, starting off with a specially curated Neon Lights-themed set by Coconuts Singapore editor Ilyas Sholihyn (aka FuturaHelvetica) and Bandwagon editor Daniel Peters (aka DJP). At 8pm, it’s a house music takeover with Weekend Mack, who’ll be raising the roof with his seasoned finesse honed during his years in Ibiza.

A taste of Neon Lights one week before the festival

The party’s taking place a week exactly before Neon Lights — did we mention that we’re the Digital Media Partners? — and you bet your ass that there’s gonna be some festival festivities during the party. Lounge around in no-nonsense comfort on doob bean bags, and even have a floral crown of your own (so festival!) from A Better Florist. Expect to see the Coconuts Singapore office chihuahuas Baxter and Jacky Moon (our boss really loves Will Ferrell movies), and feel free to bring pets of your own to the gathering.

Huge thank yous to our sponsors Chang, BottlesXO, Doob, A Better Florist and partners Neon Lights. Can’t wait to meet each and everyone one of you this Saturday!
