10 surprising facts about Singaporeans’ lifestyle habits: Survey

The results of a 1,000-strong, nationally representative survey conducted by local company Blackbox reveal some interesting trivia about Singaporeans’ lifestyle habits.

1. While men in Singapore are visibly more concerned over looks and personal grooming than they were a few years ago, it’s still a surprise to know that many spend more than $100 a week on them — about the same as women on average.

2. Singaporeans are more keen on heartland malls than those in Orchard Road when it comes to shopping — we blame the crowds and the incessant need to come home with a designer paperbag that come with entering the tourist haven.

3. Quite a lot of local girls claim to watch English Premier League games regularly, about four out of 10, to be precise.

4. Local men have taken more interest in motorsports, with four out of 10 saying they would attend more events like F1 if they were held in Singapore.

5. One in two Singaporeans think the city lacks affordable family-friendly recreational spots.

6. Singaporeans are in general, aging well. One in four aged 50 and above claim to exercise three times a week.

7. Men are as likely to take up dance and yoga as boxing.

8. And… more women are practising the martial arts with the same regularity as men.

9. Parents spend more money a week on tuition than sports and recreation for their children. (OK maybe this is not that surprising.)

10. Four in 10 students spend more than $50 a week shopping for themselves. (The surprising thing about this is that figure… $50 a week can’t possibly pay for K-pop tickets and cafe brunches!)
