Singapore will soon be home to the world’s first table service Marks & Spencer Cafe. Opening on Sept 2 at Wheelock Place, the 60-seater is located by the Food Hall and offers a simple menu of breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas.
For brekkie, healthier choices such as cereal and porridge ($4.90) or yogurt with granola and berries ($7.90) are available, alongside the usual poached eggs, toast and pancakes. Or go for the bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese ($9.90) if you’re feeling up for a hearty start to your day.
Soups are pretty standard here — they’ve got mushroom, tomato and veggie stews ($5.90 each) for your rainy day cravings. As for salads ($10.90-$16.90), pick between tuna and sweet corn, halloumi cheese, free range chicken, salmon or quinoa and avocado. The sandwich choices ($10.90-$14.90) are similar to the salads, just that you can pick from a variety of breads and baguettes as your base.
Wood-fired and stone-baked pizzas ($17.90-$19.90) don’t offer much when it comes to toppings — the only options are mozzarella, veggie and cheese and tomato — but the pastas are worth a shot. There’s the cafe’s version of mac ‘n’ cheese ($10.90), spinach and ricotta canneloni ($12.90) and king prawn linguine drenched in a creamy sauce ($15.90). Or you could always eat your fill of carbs with the jacket potato ($4.90-$9.90) topped with everything from egg mayo to tuna and sweet corn to salmon and cream cheese.
Of course, the menu also includes fish and chips ($14.90) in the hot food section, as well as veggie masala ($12.90), quiches, tarts and fish cakes. Kids’ meals and sharing plates of dips and cheeses are available, too.
And if you’d like to pop by for afternoon tea, the set for two ($29.90) comes stacked with sandwiches, scones, sweet treats and pots of fresh brews.
Your usual teas, coffees, juices and soft drinks are served here, as well as berry and tropical fruit smoothies.
Singapore’s also got the only store (other than Hong Kong) in Asia to offer the brand’s chilled food range, so if you don’t feel up for cooking after a long day at work, stop by to grab takeaway soups, salads, pastas, pizzas, desserts, juices and smoothies.
